Joshua Dylan Rubin
Born in New York City, I was raised in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado amidst a tight knit family and community of very foreword thinking creative characters. A lumberjack poet who wore sun dresses, the Gonzo journalist, hard drinking painters, chainsaw sculptors, musicians, and educators who didn’t believe in text books. I never made the decision to be an “artist,” I was nurtured to think, to question, to respect, and to live with integrity. I was raised an “artist.” After receiving my BFA in painting from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts,
I moved to Brooklyn, pre-gentrification, where I got my MFA from Pratt Institute. It is here that I have made my home for the last 25 years. It is here I met my wife, raised a son, work restoring many of New York City’s iconic buildings, and paint my paintings. This city’s unparalleled diversity has inspired and nourished my creative process, my social awareness and civic responsibilities.
